Mapao Tofu


  1. 250g minced pork/beef
  2. 1 pack of soft silken tofu
  3. Minced garlic & onions
  4. Patchun mapao tofu sauce (or any mapao tofu jar sauce works fine)
  5. 1 tablespoon of Hai Di Lao mala soup base (we always keep a jar of this)
  6. 1 cup of chicken broth
  7. Spring onions and coriander for garnishing


  1. Stir fry onion and garlic until fragrant
  2. Add minced pork and stir fry with mapao tofu sauce
  3. As the minced pork begins to cook, add 1 tablespoon of Hai Di Lao mala soup base (or two if you like it with more kick! or none if mala is not up your alley)
  4. Cut silken tofu into cubes and add it into the pan (be careful not to break the tofu with your spatula during the stiring)
  5. Add chicken broth bit by bit until the sauce is watery/thick enough to your liking – let the whole pan simmer until fully cooked & serve
  6. Garnish with spring onions/coriander
